Ministers of Defense of the United States and Russia have held initial talks about the conflict in Syria, the Pentagon announced.
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter spoke with Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on the possibility of overcoming the dispute, it said in an official statement.
News of the telephone conversation between Carter and Shoigu comes shortly after US Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States hoped that a conversation between the military leaders would be held soon.
The two defense chiefs discussed what the official announcement cited as "dekonfliktimi" and recalling that "the talks were constructive."
Meanwhile, other developments in official Moscow has warned that a possible request from Syria to send troops "will be discussed and taken into consideration".
"But it's hard to talk about this issue hypothetically" spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Meanwhile, a group of Russian human rights said it has been approached by some who fear that Russian soldiers would be sent to fight in Syria.
Any secret deployment of Russian troops in Syria would be totally illegal, said Sergei Krivenko of the Russian Council for Human Rights
