Matt Bomer reveals he almost played Superman a decade ago... but has 'zero regrets' about losing the role to Brandon Routh!
Long before Henry Cavill brought the Man Of Steel back to life on the big screen, Magic Mike star Matt Bomer was in the running for the title role a decade earlier in an ultimately-shelved Superman project.
Back in 2002, the actor auditioned for director Brett Ratner who was making the movie from a screenplay by J.J. Abrams.
'It was a month of, "OK, looks like this is going to happen," and then it slowly fell apart,' Bomer, 37, told Josh Horowitz on his Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.
After another month of waiting, the troubled production fell apart.
Ultimately, the project was revived with a different script and a different director - X-Men's Bryan Singer - and led to the 2006 movie Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh as the superhero.
In 2013, British actor Cavill donned the cape and tights in another rebooting of the comic book franchise.
'It’s OK,' Bomer said. 'I have zero regrets about that. I feel like I’ve gotten to do such a rich array of roles and so many different things and I haven’t been locked too into one [role].'
